One experience I had a few months ago was very uplifting for me:
There was a young gentleman (18 years old) in our Mindfulness group session I do on Thursdays at Charter – who at first had a real difficulty with his practice of Mindfulness. He began in his first session by sharing it doesn’t work for him. He explained that every time he closed his eyes he would be taken back to his terrible experience of when he was in a youth offender’s centre of being locked up in solitary confinement for almost two weeks. They had put him there to keep him from being abused by the other offenders. This was a real intense trauma and closed eyes meant going back to that place, his mind would go there automatically. He had lost the power of directing his mind, and playing music or listening to his headset was his only way to keep his mind busy and okay.
He actually came again to the following week sessions and eventually he started to gain back his courage to be aware and the power to guide his mind away from that terrible place inside to another safer place, which was quieter and not filled with those terrible fearful memories.
I then met him again after two months of not seeing him. He came to a Thursday Mindfulness Session and began the session by telling me how amazing his Mindfulness Practice was now. He shared how he is able to direct his mind in his daily meditation sessions and that he goes to this amazing wonderful place within himself and also about his new ability to direct his thoughts and how he practices regularly compassion to others as a Meditative practice.
For me it was amazing how he had gained so much insight and abilities to direct his mind and focus on that which is good and openhearted in himself and others. He also shared about his ability to stay off of drugs and how everything was working out well with family and day to day life.
This I feel is one of the gifts that Charter Harley Street offers to its clients.
An environment that is healing and holistic.
A place that is safe and openhearted.
A place that creates and empowers people.
Re-gaining the power to be aware, the power to guide one self, the power to create a new life.
Thank you for the opportunity to offer my services at Charter.
